Julian Kanagy (he/him) is a poet and editor who writes to explore questions he can't find other means of asking. He reads, writes, and lives alongside his kitten, Pippi, in Chicago.  His work straddles and connects his intersecting identities, informed by his lived experience.

Julian has had work published in literary magazines and journals since the beginning of his poetic journey, and is currently developing a full-length manuscript. He was First Place recipient of the Faricy Award for Poetry in 2018, after which he founded Heirlock Magazine and earned a BA and an M.Phil in Creative Writing from Northwestern University and Trinity College Dublin, respectively.

Currently, as Editor-in-Chief of The Wild Umbrella, he leads a team of passionate editors toward the mutual goal of curating, sharing, and, above all, enjoying literature from Ireland and the world.  Both as an editor and in writing his own poetry, Julian appreciates intention, concision, and structural variety.
Per the advice of a mentor, he lives in search of poems that nobody else could have written.
